The Ladder is a common obstacle found in most Tomb Raider games. It usually helps Lara advance in the level by making some areas accessible to climb.

Occurrence

Tomb Raider Classic

In the classic games (Tomb Raider II to Tomb Raider Chronicles) ladders were mainly simple textures and there is basically no difference between ladders and Climbable Walls. To climb up a ladder from below, stand in front, press the Action Button (you may also jump up first] and hold it to grab the ladder. Then press up. To climb down a ladder, stand with your back to it, hop down, press and hold the action button to grab hold and press down.

Tomb Raider II

The ladder was introduced in Tomb Raider II.

Since Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness there are actual ladder objects instead of textured walls. In this game Lara will automatically grab ladders when you approach them. From this game one Lara is also able to leave a ladder to the side by use of the directional buttons.
