The Mirror of Smoke is an ancient Aztec artefact.
It is used by Xolotl to summon up demons from the underworld to fight against Lara and Totec in the game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.
History
For a long time the Mirror of Smoke had been hidden away in Yucatan where in mythical times "the human followers of Totec, the Guardian of Light, once waged a catastrophic war against the demonic forces of Xolotl, the Keeper of Darkness".
Discovery
Lara is able to locate the artefact, but it is taken by Vasco, a local war lord, who triggers the curse that sets free Xolotl and Totec. Xolotl is able to escape escape and Totec explains to Lara how the Mirror of Smoke must be used to imprison him again "before the light of dawn" or it would be the end of the world.
Lara and Totec succeed in imprisoning Xolotl to the Mirror of Smoke, and they return it to its shrine. Lara is reluctant to place the Mirror of Smoke onto its receptacle, because it'd mean that Totec will be turned again into a statue guarding the artefact. However, Lara does so and leaves the temple.
Appearance
Black, round mirror with simple decorations and handles.
Powers
The Mirror of Smoke is a powerful artefact, which can be used to summon various demos by Xolotl. It is also to imprison him. The Mirror must be placed onto its shire fot Xolotl being succesfully imprisoned.
