Día de Muertos
Día de Muertos (or Day of the Dead) is a festival in many parts of Mexico and some other Latin American countries. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. While in ancient times - before the conquista in the late 15th and 16th century- the festival took place in summer, in modern times it has been appropriated by Christianity and now coincides with All Hallows.
Día de Muertos in Shadow of the Tomb Raider
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider Lara Croft and Jonah Maiava join the festivities surrounding the Día de Muertos on the island of Cozumel. They meet in a small restaurant called La Casa Mexicana to discuss their recent findings. Afterwards Lara follows Dr. Dominguez through the town square where she can interact with some of the people gathered here for the holiday while wearing a traditional mask to blend in. For example there is a young boy here who lights firecrackers in remembrance of his deceased father, as well as an old woman remembering her husband. In the nearby cemetery she also witnesses many people praying in front of graves and lighting candles.
