Xibalba is the thirteenth level in Tomb Raider Underworld and the second of the Southern Mexico Section. In the game Lara needs to solve two puzzles involving the Maya Calendar to open the entrance to Xibalba. There Lara finds several trap rooms, the Thralls and has her first contact with the Eitr fluid. In the depths of Xibalba lies a symbolic sanctuary representing the battle of Thor and the Midgard Serpent, Jörmungandr, and Lara has to solve a puzzle to get Thor's Belt.
Even though the two upcoming levels (The Midgard Serpent and Land of the Dead) are not found under the name Xibalba, they take place in the Maya underworld, even more so than the actual Xibalba level.
- Xibalba - Place of Fear. It's unclear whether Xibalba was thought to be a supernatural afterlife or a city of people who worshipped death. Commonly believed to have been in Guatemala, it appears Xibalba is farther to the northwest than previously thought. If the pattern of Thor's artifacts giving rise to local underworld myths hold, then I might find things akin to the thrall tigers my father brought back from Bhogavati, Thailand. [1]
