The Bats are encountered often during Lara's adventures. They are the first enemies ever encountered in the games; in the original Tomb Raider. Most often they appear as single enemies, except for Tomb Raider III (where they are harmless and only serve as a style element) and Tomb Raider Chronicles, where they appear as a flock. There were bats in all the Tomb Raider games, except for Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider Legend. They are also encountered in Tomb Raider Underworld in Thailand.

In Tomb Raider Lara will encounter single bats. They mainly occur in the caverns in Peru and in Greece.

In Tomb Raider III, in the Madubu Gorge, Lara will meet flocks of bats that are harmless. They are actually animations instead of enemies.
The Last Revelation

Bats return as enemies in Tomb Raider Underworld. At the moment it is still unknown in which levels they will be present, but they can be seen in screenshots from the Thailand location.
