The Rope Arrows are a part of Lara's gear in the reboot games, introduced in Tomb Raider (2013).
Tomb Raider (2013)
Rope Arrows can be used to reach higher areas or to pull at objects or enemies. It can be fired to any rope-wrapped surface and to other special objects to create Zip Lines or in order to pull them down. This way it is possible for Lara to destroy hiding places and force her enemies into the open.
It is also possible to shoot Rope Arrows directly at enemies in order to pull them down a ledge. This is a rather neat method of getting rid of them without wasting too much ammo.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
In Rise of the Tomb Raider, the continuation of the 2013 reboot, Rope Arrows make a reappearance. They can be used in a similar fashion as before, although pulling Enemies from ledges is no longer possible as the Rope Arrows are now automatically selected when Lara aims for object where they can be attached - previously they could be selected manually as secondary ammunition.
Lara finds the rope she needs for the Rope Arrows in the Gulag prison of the Soviet Installation when she tries to break out. It is located in the office beyond the Crumbling Wall where the Recurve Bow is also hidden. She uses the Heating Pipe she broke off the radiator in her cell to demolish the wall, as she has lost her Axe to Konstantin when she was taken prisoner.
