Upgrades are a feature that enhance or develop abilities, gear items or weapons for the better.
Gaining Upgrades usually requires something special to be done or found.

Upgrades in Tomb Raider Games
Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

In Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness the new, limited Strength Bar was introduced. To make the Strength Bar run down more slowly, the player needed to gain Upper Body Strength Power Ups. Lower Body Strength Power Ups enable Lara to jump over greater gaps. Certain tasks have to be completed in order to gain Power Ups.
Tomb Raider (2013)
In TOMB RAIDER there are plenty of different upgrades available. The player can upgrade Lara's skills with collected XP, which turns into Skill Points. Also, the weapons can be upgraded with collected Salvage.
Similar to Upgrading weapons, in a few occasions some Weapon Parts are collected to modify a weapon to another, more developed and efficient version.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
In Tomb Raider (2013) there many different kinds of upgrades available. By collecting XP, which results getting Skill Points, which then in turn can be spend on Upgrades, the player can improve on Lara's skills. Additionally, weapons can be upgraded with collected Salvage and other items found while playing the game.
