A scipt showing the Sanglyph signs on the left, and their correlations to the paintings on the right. The fifth painting has not been recognised.

The Obscura Paintings are five 15th century pieces of art, that play a major role in the game The Angel of Darkness. The were thought to be linked to Alchemy and the dark arts. They are images painted on thick wooden bases, like Russian icons. The images were created by the Black Alchemist Pieter Van Eckhardt in the 13 or 1400's. Together the Paintings hide something called the Sanglyph (also known as the The Blood Sign) which Eckhardt had produced to revive the Nephilim and hidden it in the paintings to keep them safe. Each painting has a metallic symbol of power built into it which will, if combined form the Sanglyph. The original paintings depicted evil imagery.

The Paintings were seized by the Lux Veritatis from Eckhardt in the mid 15th century and painted over with religious imagery by Brother Obscura. Before the paintings were hidden, Brother Obscura made secret copies of the paintings, the Obscura Engravings which held the key to the locations of the original paintings. The Cabal were already in possession of three of the paintings, when they hired Werner von Croy to get the fourth for them in Paris.

The fourth painting was located underneath the Louvre in Paris, in a chamber guarded by the Spirit of Brother Obscura.

The fifth painting was hidden underneath the Strahov in Prague, in the ancient room of the Lux Veritatis, known as the Vault of Trophies.

Powers

The paintings have no power, but they do hold pieces of a very powerful artefact known as The Sanglyph.
